Not necessarily but the advantage of HireVue is that it allows firms to interview more candidates rather than just ivy/target school kids.
Right, but doesn't it reduce the quality of the interviews? I agree it is good that it allows a larger portion of the applicant pool to be reviewed further but it seems like there is a lot of weight on the hirevues
Definitely agree here as someone who graduated from a non-target. In regards to OP, I also feel as if I can convey myself better through a recording versus a 15-minute phone interview. I may have a bad connection over the phone and I also think the interviewer being able to see you helps establish a greater connection.
I'm from a non-target too and I think HireVues are great when they are looked at as a virtual cover letter along with your resume, but I do not feel as though they should be replacing first round interviews. Not having the opportunity to answer follow up questions doesnt allow me to showcase my level of thinking
I think Hirevues are bad for recruiting. Some people are great on camera but terrible in person, and some are the opposite. Are you ever going to be talking to a camera in an IBD role?
Also, I like being able to establish a connection with my interviewer. Chat a little bit, make it feel less forced and more comfortable, and then you also learn more about the bank (by asking questions). Personally, my success rate is far better with phone interviews than Hirevues.
That being said, it makes sense on the employer end. They interview more kids and it takes way less time, it’s all completely standardized, etc, but I hate it as an applicant.
absolutely...i've been on the observation side of hirevue...you can tell a lot about a person...intelligence etc...after watching a lot of them you start to see behavioral patterns...if you are lying or trying to cover up and not be honest, etc...
