Hold out for education PE consulting ---> edtech VC/PE or go education PE consulting ---> any VC/PE ---> edtech VC/PE?

I've been getting a lot of invitations to interview at endowments, VCs, and PEs, but none that are education focused (which is what I'm after).

I'm wondering if I should keep holding out to go directly from education PE consulting to education VC/PE, or if I should take ANY PE/VC job and then move to education PE/VC from there.

Which would you guess has higher odds of getting to the end state of education VC/PE?

It largely depends on the timeline you're working with. If you like your current job and have the option to stay until you find something aligned with your interests, then perhaps it makes sense to stay since you're already working on education deals.

Since it's a pretty niche space, I'd assume that you'd benefit from as much industry exposure as you can get (i.e. continuing to work in the space vs. joining a general vc/pe where you might not touch anything education related). Probably wouldn't hurt to talk to the more senior guys in your office about it if you've got that kind of culture
