A boss of mine worked as a banker in LA when he was younger. He summed it up like this: "Tell a model in LA you work at a bank, and she'll look at you like you're crazy and go look for a C-list actor."

He enjoyed being in California but said it was very different because Hollywood (actors, musicians, agents, etc) dominate at all ages/levels, just like finance does in NY. He had previously worked in NY and Charlotte, and said that the culture was a little looser but the hours were still long. This was probably 10 years ago or so, though.

There have been many great comebacks throughout history. Jesus was dead but then came back as an all-powerful God-Zombie.

It's not that much different from San Francisco in that regard...

In LA, you are not "the talent". The creative types are. You are the help. You are the infrastructure they need to do what they do to make the money.

In SF, it's less pronounced but the core of the business universe there is the venture money and the technologists.

In New York, the bankers are the center of gravity.

Does that matter to you? Absolutely, if your motivation is models and bottles. If your motivation is simply to put the kids through school, pay for your house, and have the ability to own the cool toys you always wanted, not so much.

That's hilarious, but true. And if she does recognize the bank you work for, you can be sure she's a gold digger.

Wrong. If they do recognize the bank you work for, they assume you are a teller, and stop talking to you.

There is NOTHING attractive about banking to women in LA. PERIOD. They want a movie actor / rock star.

These are the facts.
