Honours Semester while working as a FT 1st Year Analyst?

Hi fellow monkeys,

Am fortunate to have converted my BB S&T internship to a full-time job, and will be doing Rates Trading. I am going to start work soon in August - but was wondering if it was possible to finish up my honours semester while working.

Currently, I''ve only got a final thesis left which I could do on the nights and weekends that I'm free, plus 3 classes that I could clear in summer school. Hence, I am thinking of completing my degree this December because of this.

If not, my other option is to graduate without an honours degree but with a full-time job; which is okay, but given the inherent volatility of the industry I believe it may be risky if I start off without an honours. My reason for not being able to finish my honours degree on time was because I took a 6 month leave from school to intern at a large buy-side place.

I am asking this question here instead of HR as I don't want to be under special scrutiny even before I start working.

Appreciate your responses. Feel free to ask me anything about my path; will answer you privately.

Hi mate, i'd take the job. Whether that means you do honours while working or drop honours completely. I'm assuming you're in Australia (based on the optional honours)? I think it'd be possible to write your thesis on the weekend (S&T not much weekend work), would be a tough couple months but if you want the honours that's what i'd do. If you're choosing between the two i'd take the job though.

If you are in Australia let me know, i just got an S&T analyst role as well, doesn't seem to be too many of us.

Hi! Am not based in Australia, but thank you for the advice! I definitely want to keep my job; but am not sure how to inform HR that I want to do this, or if it's even possible..
