Hopeful Investment Banker: Senior in HS -- What to do?
Before you neglect this post due to my inexperience in the actual field or belief that I am going to change my mind about this, hear me out. First off, I didn't become passionate about business because I watched Wolf of Wall Street once or twice. I've grown up with a business and entrepenurial mindset, which ultimately culminated to a passion with finance. I started off buying a couple stocks a month, checking them day to day on my iPhone's stock app, but have recently gotten more serious. I attended a wall street camp this past summer in New York, getting a taste of the NYC feel and fast paced environment. Over the summer I also took part in a mini virtual internship, making research reports and having to present investment decisions. I also started my own investment club at my high school, hoping to leave my mark and a place mark for passionate pre-college business students. If you want to check out my blog, don't hesitate to PM me.
Now for my "situation"--
I'm off to college in 7-8 months and am most likely going to attend a lower tier school. It is a strong consideration of mine to attend Indiana University and hopefully transfer into the Kelley School of Business (#8 in country for undergraduate, top choice for recruiters) for the following year. I also applied to Boston University for early decision and am awaiting a response back from them. If accepted into Boston U I will most definitely be attending and most likely for all four years of undergrad. If I attend Indiana, would it be best to transfer in the business school after that first year or transfer out to a more prestigious school all together? I am from around Chicago and am very familiar with the city so I think it would be neat to go out east for my studies. Also, I know investment banking is a competitive field and that schools actually do matter. Wherever I go, I will of course make as many connections as possible and work extremely hard. What are your recommendations on schools or paths to take to get into said "top tier school" for IB?
Anything else you might want to provide me with regarding the industry and process of breaking in? What I could start doing now to get ahead of the pack? I know this is what I want to do and I want to go out and start making it a reality as soon as possible.
Don't hesitate to comment or add anything that I may of missed. I will be editing the post with any news or additional information going on with me and my studies. I am going to stay as active as possible with this post.
Thank you!
P.S. This is a really sloppy post and i'm sorry about that. Dang macroeconomics test tomorrow.
I went to a non-target and ended up in a BB. It can be done. You will have to work very hard and network a TON. Stay focused and don't give up.
