i'm a (straight) girl, so seeing them isn't really my concern. i'm just confused as to the low ratio of hired:interviewed for attractive girls as opposed to attractive guys, which i see a lot of.
are bankers just afraid of sexual harassment suits or are there more gay bankers in the recruitment process than i thought?
most hot girls are also rich girls from well off families. they don't need the money and don't want to put in the hours. they take a normal 40-60 hr/week job. they're trying to get married, not become MDs.

Not every attractive woman is just trying to get married. What a dumb assumption. A lot of guys in finance like to think this way in order to make the hours seem worth it - they’ll make some money and then all the girls will magically line up. The thing about some rich women taking easier jobs because they don’t need the money is somewhat accurate, but I’ve seen a ton of attractive rich women in tough jobs simply because they have the ambition for a good career.

Agree, although I have seen some hot girls in banking (but certainly not many). I diagree that hot girls are usually the rich ones..often the rich girls are the product of a rich, ugly daddy and a hot mom...an ugly + a hot doesn't necessarily produce a hot child.
There were 2 really hot girls in my SA class. One was rich and ambitious, the other was middle-class.
I wish there were more hot girls in banking through. It sucks that most are so painful to look at.
As for hot girls at superdays but not in the banks, I really have no idea. It seemed to me that hot girls who wanted to do banking at my school had no problem getting offers everywhere. I know a girl with an average GPA, average work experience, average everything but she's a hot blonde and she got offers petty much everywhere. She's cool and all, but I think her looks are what did it for her.
To be fair, hot + hot doesn't always produce a hot kid. At the same time, hotties can come from so-so looking parents.
Is it possible having a bunch of hot girls is a bank's way of doing a bait-and-switch? "Look at all these hot girls you will be working with...Hell, maybe you could hook-up with one!"

Although I am sure you guys are at least half-kidding (or I hope so), I suggest you read "The Feminine Mystique" by Betty Friedan. It's old, but you might still learn something from it.

I will respect the feminist movement when the women who believe in it stop wanting it both ways. They want to be "independent" and treated equally with men but they still want men to open up doors and give up rides in taxis, etc. If chivalry is dead, feminists killed it.

As a feminist I totally agree. If women want to be treated like equals, then they need to stop believing in outdated expectations on who should pay and who should take care of the children. Guys - accept the feminist movement, but don’t let girls have double standards.
Why would any woman want to endure the work of an analyst? What comes out of it for them....There are far better jobs that lead to entrepreneurial, managerial positions, than being in a 2 yr analyst program (if the woman has the will and determination to be more than a barbie). But if not, then getting a 9-5 at a BB is respectable enough, and you could be assured to have a successful husband who can take care of you, and you could have a good life (and a good name to yourself). There's no reason ANYONE willingly wants to work 100+ hrs a week, but majority are men because, as others mentioned, work hard to make the money, then the women. As for the women....work a 9-5, have a hot body, some class, and your good to go.

At my school, there are certain banks which consistently get the 'pretty girls' (well good looking people in general). A lot of the girls come from pretty well off families but either 1) get peer pressured into the corporate track b/c all their friends are doing things, or 2) want to find a means to an end. Everyone knows banking provides great exit opps. esp. if you want to go to business school.
The poster is saying she specifically DOESN'T want to rely on a man's money. That's her reason for working in banking. I agree that taking a man to the cleaners for "shits and giggles" is vindictive, petty, disgusting and not at all funny (unless he cheated on you - then it's pretty funny), but I think the actual point of her post was that she wants to be self-sufficient, i.e. not a gold-digger, which unfortunately does describe a surprising number of girls in banking.
I think there are some naive misconceptions here about how easy it is for hot girls to snap up a wealthy banker and live the good life. Many of us are wise enough to know that being a rich man's prize is a miserable life. There will never be any real feeling between you two, he'll stop petting you if you stop being pretty and available, you'll feel cheap every time you ask him for money, you will always be under his control, and he can make your life a torment if he wants to. Who wants to be imprisoned in a gilded cage? Some women are short-sighted or cold enough to do this, but many women learn a thing or two about the world before they decide what they want out of marriage/life in general.
In short, being a trophy wife is a terrible life, and even the trophy wives know that. I personally know a number of trophy wives - I don't respect them and I'm pretty sure they don't respect themselves either. So the next time you see a hot banker chick, consider that maybe she wants the same things you want: lots of money, control over her own life, and even possibly love.

At my school, the hotness of the girl would correlate highly with the tier of the bank. The naturally hottest girls would go to GS TMT or Evercore. The uglier girls would go to places like BMO or Nomura.

if you think about it, most good looking girls I know are into finding attractive and wealthy men that they can marry and live a great life with.
In banking you have a huge number of these men. It makes sense for girls perhaps looking for such a man to join the industry. It probably won't be for a while but 2-years of paying their dues could mean another 20 years of living a great lifestyle with their future husband.

the image consultant, with absolutely no fashion background, who is a creepy 40-ish woman, usually drives most of the women away by telling us we are not allowed to be fashionable in the early parts of our career in the very conservative banking arena and criticizes everything we happen to be wearing during that torturous hour where we listen to her wax poetic about scarves and small, non-distinct handbags, and not being allowed to wear heels over 2.5 inches or garter belts and seamed hose.

Banks? Hottest girls I've ever seen in finance haven't been bankers. Those are a rare, rare breed. And they're usually not entirely dateable either.

The girls that are objectively hot tend to do one of three things after 1-2 years of banking:
1) Headhunters 2) Fashion company (LV/Chanel etc.) 3) Investor relations at a PE firm
oh and
4) Get married to a nice rich dood
I have never seen 1 truly hot girl in banking. As said above, they are in other divisions like marketing, hr and sales/investor relations. The only way a really hot girl (not just banking hot) would want to do banking is if she was extremely stupid, and in that case, even her looks wouldn't help her get the job. I can say though that all the mildly attractive girls that do enter, never leave the same way.

first round is generally a fit interview. girls can just be generally "interested in business" -- perhaps driven by peer pressure -- and drop their resumes. they'd pass the first round because of "personality" and "energy" (banks care about this, no?). oh and also....senior people just like you: they'd like to look at better girls as much as you do - if not more. they'll try to bring them back for superday.
however by final round, many might not make it because of the technical questions. i'm not saying girls arent smart enough to learn how to answer these...but for those who are just "trying to see what it is about" because of a "general interest in business" will less likel spend the additional hours to read up for the interview. internship or full time, a hiring decision is made by mutual agreement amongst multiple senior interviewers. even though a candidate is good to look like, a senior person is unlikely to let her pass if she missed on some standard technical questions.
