How a SA SHOULD live it up in the Big Apple
So, I got the summer analyst position at a BB, secured my Midtown apartment, passed all background checks, and finished my final exams. I'll be on the beaches in a few days before I head up to NY, planning what to do...
What are some MUST DO, Maybe do, and DEFINTELY DON'T DO's for a first time SA in NYC?
Basically, recommend anything I should do outside of work to truly experience life as NY's finest. What would YOU do (knowing what you now know) if you were only going to be in NYC for the summer?

shake shack in union square park, get out of the city and into a hamptons house party at least once, the bar at the sculpture garden at the met, upright citizens' brigade and joshua tree (i don't care how cliche it is) ....
The shake shack is in Madison Square Park. If you can, try to feel the experience of table service and models and bottles as well. Just for the cliche'd expression of "I'm livin the life".

Your work ID generally gets to into a lot of museums for little/no cost. If you have never been, many of them (Met, MoMa) are worth checking out.
For those of us from the area...I know, the Natural History museum was cool when we were 12. But really, nothing beats free.

my understanding from talking to friends in NYC is that the nightlife during summer is horrendous because the "real" new yorkers are gone, and the clubs and bars are filled with interns, tourists, and B&T people. plus, the summers are unbelievably humid, so it's difficult to stay outside for an extended period of time. is this viewpoint accurate?

Take a swim in the across the Hudson when your real wasted. Must do!
Oh, plan a day or at least an afternoon if you can in Central Park. Go with a few buddies and make an afternoon of it. Always a fun time.
Rooftop party. Find one, go to it.
rooftop parties at places like 230 fifth or high rise apartments like 2 gold? i think the latter attracts a lot of young interns.
get one of your girl friends who is interning in pr or whatever to get you into every party she works on...
Go to a yankee game. Last year of yankee stadium.
I second that. Yankee game is a must.
Lets be a bit more genteel about that... Go to a baseball game. I'm not naming teams here, but lets just say Flushing should be where you want to see a game... not the bronx.

go to scores spend a day at jones beach (on long island) get out to the hamptons (someone in ur SA program will have a house, find out and befriend him) check out columbia university watch a basketball game in rucker park or west 4th happy ending massage
also check out milk and honey if you can get in

yes, and while you're at it, are there any fratty places in ny outside of the ues/netti's. i'm as much of a fratstar as my gpa will allow (which means i get trashed and try getting laid every second i'm not studying), and i'm generally perturbed by the extent of classlessness that pervades much of the city.

what are some of the best places to stop into (bars and nightclubs). I'm looking to stop into a few of the top clubs, but still want to find somewhere I can grab a seat and a pint.

Walter, I'll have an answer for that tomorrow. A Co-Worker of mine lives right over there (well, a block or two off the park), so I can find out for ya...
Another thing to do is take a day/weekend trip down to the Jersey Shore if you can (For the uninitiated, it's always an experience). Check out a play on Broadway (TKTS booth for a sunday matinee ticket deal FTW!) Explore the local music scene for Jazz bars you like. Also, try to find night clubs for you to hear live bands at. Always fun. Atypical suggestion, but catch a real independant film at either the Angelika, the Village East or the IFC Center. It's a wierd expereince seeing a limited release film in the theaters if you are into movies.

The two recomendations from my coworker are Park Bar (15th Btwn B'Way and Union Sq) and Union Bar (Park Ave South near 17th). Never been to Union, but Park Bar is nice. There's Belmont Lounge (15th Btwn Irving Place and Park), Pete's Tavern (East 18th and Irving Place) and Old Town Bar (East 18th Btwn B'Way and Park Ave South). Pete's, Old Town and Belmont should all suit your fancy for something frattish… If you're looking to venture a bit further north, I'd recomend PS 450 (450 Park Avenue South Btwn 30th and 31st and Right off the 6 at 33rd) or The Ginger Man (E. 36th Between Madison and Fifth). Both are great spots to hit up.
ChelseaFC, your best bet is to head down 3rd Ave from 34th to 23rd if you want a big dose of "Frat". Anywhere in Murry Hill, Kips Bay and around Union Square will be your best bet to find a place.
Coney Island is different for a change. They might have demolished more stuff now, who knows. As an employee of many banks, you might get free admission to most museums, with guests.
Have to see a set at Village Vanguard and Blue Note.

That's just a sampling, but there are some excellent restaurants on that list. One of the best parts about being an intern is the money and lack of real expenses. Definitely take advantage of this.

From gotham dream cars, its like $1,600 for 24 hours plus and the car is pretty sick, its an F430 (or any other exotic) a good once in a lifetime experience or if you plan on buying on later in life you can test drive which one you want to get
