You got into a top university, and titled your post “how can I get into sales and trading”

You proceed to ask “is it worth it?”.

No disrespect intended, but to succeed in this industry requires being proactive. By proactive, that means doing your research. Research into sales and trading, and figuring out for yourself if it’s “worth it”. Then you can ask how to beat proceed getting in.

This post was written with the “tell me what to do in life” attitude - one that will not work in this industry. Ask directed questions after doing your research, such as “what types of questions are good to ask? How do you view the market based on XYZ factors I read about”. Not questions like “what do I do in general”.

Being proactive and determined is indeed very important for this industry, but being lost and not really sure about your future in the second year of college is totally normal too!  If you're studying at one of the top universities, the competition in your area must be crazy. Considering this, if you don't have any practical experience and you don't have anyone who could help you get a place at a huge financial company, it would make sense to apply everywhere. At this stage, you should focus on getting those practical skills and make sure that you do that before your graduation day. Coming back to your question, yes, it's definitely worth it. Apart from getting an internship and making a strong CV, you should get connections. People around you might help you make a necessary step in your career that you wouldn't even think about. Talk to your fellow students, ask them about their experiences. Your professors might also recommend a place for an internship. All in all, you don't have to Know everything right now, you still have time, but you have to use it wisely.
