How did people find out about positions?

I'm hoping this is a unique post since I haven't found one that answers this question exactly, but here it goes. How did everybody find out about the positions they've either interviewed for or were actually hired?
Was it through standard job postings, school recruiting, networking, blackmail?

Just curious since I always hear that the ONLY way in is through networking.

...Or you could just go to a Target school and then you actually get an organized recruiting process. Networking is crucial for everybody and all, but it's definitely NOT the only way if you go to a recognized institution.

I knew which sector I wanted to cover so I emailed all of the analysts (25-30 total) my CV, a rec letter, a working model, and a mock earnings note. I heard back from four analysts, had interviews with three, and am now working for one. I was lucky that a few analysts were looking for an associate or knew that they shortly would be. Try to narrow down which industry or possibly sector you would like to work in and go from there. You can do a job search and submit your resume online but this more direct approach worked really well for me.

Thanks for the input. Well, everybody except Independent up there. Not sure how you thought that would be helpful, but anyway... At what level did people enter using the methods listed above? Did associates make use of school recruiting? I'm assuming it would be at the MBA level. I'm working on the direct contact method now in a specific sector that has to do with my background
