How do I compel a unique background when applying for internships/jobs?
The resume is only great for demonstrating competency and aptitude within a structured environment – school. Employers say they want candidates from diverse backgrounds what if I didn't thrive in a structured environment? Say I worked full-time during high school and undergrad, have overcome being homeless, have been an undocumented worker in Asia.
I believe Military Veterans used to have problems highlighting their transferrable skills until large initiatives were taken to show companies the skills that prior service bring from serving.
How should I highlight my unique background/story when applying for internships/jobs? What should people with unique experiences do to make sure their strengths and potential to contribute aren't discounted?
