How do I prepare for an energy internship?
I signed an offer with a bank in Houston for an Energy SA position for 2021. I don't have any prior experience in O&G and the program is generalist across M&A as well as RX (across all verticals).
How do I best prepare myself for the internship, knowing that the deal teams are likely to be lean and the work challenging (given the unique nature of modeling in O&G). I am going to be keeping up with news in the industry given the dynamic nature, but what else can I do?
Any books that can give me a good grasp of the whole supply chain and key constituents of the industry that I should read?
Finally, what resources do you use to keep yourself up-to-date in the industry? Any O&G websites (I came across Oil & Gas 360)?
bump
The DB O&G Primer is pretty good but outdated. Google / look around here for PDFs. I use my firm's research but you can look on Bloomberg/WSJ/etc and find journalists you like.
TPH has an incredible primer that is 114 pages of PowerPoint (easy and quick read though). Probably the most comprehensive read that I've come across. Try and find it online and lmk if you have trouble. Its called Energy Primer 101 - Tudor Pickering Holt
Also since its Rx too, look at Houlihan's Rx case study. If you wanted to go above and beyond, find a bankruptcy that interests you and read through some of the court dockets. "Chesapeake Energy Bankruptcy Docket" on google should do the trick.
Chesapeake lol, what an absolute dumpster fire of an operator
Can i pm?
sure
