How do REPE firms hire multiple people for the same position?

How do real estate private equity firms make offers for multiple of the same type of analyst positions in different offices (hiring from undergrad)? All at once or one by one? I'm confused because I had a final interview with three directors this past Thursday. After that interview they scheduled a last-minute/unexpected interview with an analyst for the following day, and asked questions like which office I would prefer to work in/when I can start. The night following the interview with the analyst, I saw on LinkedIn that someone was hired as an analyst for the same position in their west coast office (I was interviewing with people in the east coast office).

I'm also confused because one of the directors responded to my thank you and said that i have the passion and knowledge of what it takes to be successful in the industry, and i have a bright future ahead of me. he also told me he believed HR would be following up.

I was shocked to see someone on linkedin was an incoming analyst for the same position. Am I out of the running?

No, you are not out of the running. Most REPE firms either have coverage groups from a product type (industrial, MF, etc.), geography, or both. This means that firms who have a presence on the east and west coasts typically run totally separate processes. Even more granular, the SanFran office may even run a separate process from the LA office. This is how it works for firms like Oaktree, Carlyle, etc.
