How do search funds find companies?
I’ve heard of the general criteria search funds follow to find industries and companies, but I’m looking for something more specific.

Generally curious how the industry works for insiders versus someone from the outside who would probably just google around.
They both talk to companies directly and to M&A bankers to source new deals. One-on-one transactions with company owners can be more lucrative than participating in auctions run by bankers, but will cost a lot of time.
