How do you carve out time to do basic stuff

So I find myself in a place sometimes I don't have enough time to go grocery shopping (sometimes I don't even have time to order Whole Foods on amazon). When I do go grocery shopping - all the food goes to waste (except fruit) because I never have enough time to make food. I work like 12-13 hours a day, then stuff like commuting/getting ready and volunteer work takes another like 10 hours per week. Sometimes I make to do lists, but something else comes up and I can't even do basic things. Im hesitant to even order food on door dash bc im wasting like 4 min looking for food when I could be working. I do hang out with friends on the weekends to just keep my sanity.

Would appreciate how you guys have time to do basic life things (exercise, grocery, food prep) with work and other life obligations.

There are completely useless and you are a fucking idiot.

Are you calling a robot an idiot while using incomplete sentences? 😂😂😂

Thanks - for volunteering though, I made a 2 year commitment to it though. Also looks really good if I decide to apply to grad school and I like having a track record of volunteer work.

i simply stopped hanging out with friends and stopped texting/talking to them so much. And I have more time

Agree with others. I just cut out volunteering yesterday because it’s very difficult to manage time

I made a 2 year commitment though - but I simply cut out talking to friends on the phone and I stopped hanging out with them and I have more time. Literally Saturday all I did was relax and Sunday I got food and meal prepped

I didn't do extracurriculars I was regularly taking 20+ credits. I did tango at some point. But just an hour once a week and back to the library right after. I think I just have to stop spending so much time texting/talking to friends. I think its great I've made so many friends recently, but they are kind of holding me back from taking action. Sure I talk to them about my goals but I need to put them into action. I kind of feel I need to turn off my phone while working or just get a second phone.

You need to develop a  time schedule, an agenda calendar.  Keep track of all appointments. I honestly don't know how you survived school without developing some kind of a daily routine bro? Seriously when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you do?  Start from there...

Try eating one meal per day - OMAD. I usually do it 5 days per week unless I workout 2x day, then I have to eat more. Daily Harvest is a good smoothie delivery service. Eat some nuts - you can probably get them off Amazon. And UberEats and Seamless and Grubhub should give you a fast and easy dinner. You have to be feeding yourself good foods and also be getting good sleep. If your volunteering work is hindering your sleep, you should maybe break the commitment.

Isaiah - you make me so nervous I don’t know what I should reply.

Here are the options I thought of so far:

1. no reply

2. regarding volunteering, this past week I attempted to not hang out with friends so that helped. Sunday I went grocery shopping and meal prepped. I feel a lot more healthier and I’m waking up earlier, while still having time to volunteer. It’s really important in my life, I made a 2 year commitment, and honestly as a single working young female — interacting with a child and helping her make a plan with her and the court system after she’s gone through the worst, really gives me satisfaction to the point I wish I could move back to the east coast just to see her and spend time with her. Plus, I’m making plans to eventually leave my job/ this whole industry. And volunteering is what keeps me feeling feminine and having a real moral impact in the world.

3. Maybe if I got married, had my own business, and was a housewife to a catholic husband, I’d have all the time in the world to grocery shop and cook amazing food all day.

Attempting to do everything that someone does who works 40 hours when you work 70-75 (including volunteering) is unreasonable. There just aren't enough hours available.

With that in mind the typical solution is to outsource. For dinner in particular, buy the meal if you don't have access to a meal stipend. Trying to hurriedly put together a meal late in the evening after a long day at work is a poor long term strategy. Breakfast is usually overpriced imo. You can easily fix a bowl of cereal or oats for close to nothing. If you don't have time to fix oats at home buy the microwave variety and fix it in the office. Cereal and oats also have pretty long expiration dates so you won't have to purchase them often. Lunch is a grab bag based on the day. You can freeze most of the ingredients for sandwiches so you don't need to buy weekly, but some days you could be more hungry and need to purchase something to supplement. For snacks you can order huge boxes of granola (which again has a long shelf life) and just take a portion of it with you every day.

For exercising, consistency is important so many people choose morning before work as the time to exercise. Either your apartment gym (if it has one) or the office gym will eliminate additional commute time.

Dry cleaning you can probably drop off and pick up in between visiting your friends.
