How do you find the enterprise value of a private company? I have the financials, is it just paid in capital + net debt? Or would it be the assets (market value) + net debt.

OP, shouldn't your seniors have asked you to build comps, precedent transactions or a DCF model before?
DCF, LBO or comps.
9 times out of 10, ebitda multiple (or whatever relevant metric whether ebitdar or revenue or whatever) based on trading comps. Ltm likely, although depending on industry, could be a forward multiple.
Could run a dcf, boilerplate lbo, precs to get a range, although keep in mind range will likely be wide given the numerous assumptions you’ll make for dcf and lbo analyses.

Private companies don't have a market cap I believe
la flame, That is pretty much correct. Considering private companies do not trade on open exchanges. There are a number of variables taken into account when determining market cap for publicly traded companies which are not applicable, and many times not available, for private companies. Hence a different valuation method, typically provided for in the Red Herring or some other introductory piece of literature associated with the fund/company..

Yes, you will have to do a DCF if you have no multiples, no comps, and no transactions. That's the quick answer.
If you have the whole model, this should take about 5 minutes max to do a valuation. Since this sounds like a test, I'm not gonna help you too much but it sounds pretty mechanical.
