How do you know if your bank/ group is a sweatshop?
1) what are your hours like on good, average and bad weeks?
2) how often do you get bad weeks?
3) how does your team react after you work a late night? (I.e. apologize and or take things off your plate or act as if it didn’t happen etc
3 ?????
bro i will send an email at 6am with the next turn and my director will call me at 830am screaming and banging the desk about how some number doesn't look like what he wnated
im just going to kill myself i dont care anymore
just think about it this way - if they're so reliant on you working 24/7, it's going to hit them hard when you just say f**k it and bounce. take some time off, go on vacation and get into one of the million jobs out there you like best
lol dude
how toxic is it that i think about that often
like one day i just say alright dude, since it's so fucking simple and it's such a dumb ass - go fucking do it yourself
This makes me feel greatful for the group I’m in. I’ve never seen a senior or anyone at the firm get angry, at least in front of me. And I never work past midnight. Is this normal?
No one gets angry in my group either, I mean, I'm sure sometimes they feel irritated and express it but yeah. Definitely work past midnight though, even at my level. So I would say if you are in a good bank that has good culture and good hours, that's pretty much the Promised Land.
Are you at a MM?
Don't be afraid to stand your ground with senior bankers, I did it all the time while making my way up through the ranks. They'll either continue to shit on you, at which time it is time to find a new bank, or they will realize you are not a pushover and back off.
I would be preparing to lateral if I were you. I just did. Let me know if you need help with the process. You are a first year, your ods are so good
It’s a very simple test to know if you work at a sweat shop:
has there been 3 consecutive months where you value sleep over sex/ don’t have the energy to play 5 on one?
If the above is true you are in a sweatshop. Even great places you can have bad months and you can have kind co-workers and managers, but still be in a sweatshop, due to getting over worked.
5 on one?
Boxing the one eyed snake? Paddling the pink canoe?
