rounds if the place is packed so not everyone is waiting at the bar at once, and then buy single/double drinks as needed since it'll be hard to keep everyone in one place.

You wish you had one

You actually don't want one.

At work, when we get a table (most of the time) the standard way to pay if we're not expensing it is to do credit card roulette at the end. Everybody throws a credit card in a bag and the waitress grabs one and puts the entire bill on it.  For *some reason* she always seems to grab one of the metal cards.  As long as they don't do away with backdoor roth contributions I'm happy with my Fidelity Visa and it's 2% cash back in there even though it's plastic. (They dropped my limit to $30k because I almost never hit 20% utilization)

If I'm going out on my own I prefer to pay as I go and use google pay if I can. (flows through to that card anyway)  It just looks cooler.  Unfortunately I was out at Barcade Jersey City Sunday afternoon and they made me put down the physical card and then sign a paper receipt which is quaintly old-fashioned. (Turns out I'm rusty at TMNT too, so it was a disappointing evening)

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

just walk out and let them call the police if they want

Great way to end up in the tombs bro. I've done a weekend, trust me you don't want to be there.

I never venmo for drinks. You just have to take turns buying rounds. Sometimes you will lose out and pay more than your friends but that's ok. Don't be a sourpuss over $7 (I was like this at one point)

Definitely agree with this. Just buy a round for one or two people and say “I’ll get the first round” if it’s a crowded bar, and then they’ll typically get the next round. If they genuinely forget to, then oh well. Don’t mention it or venmo request them. If they seem to conveniently forget again, maybe get more considerate friends or just buy your own drinks. If someone buys me a round, I always make em effort to remember to buy them one. People also appreciate if you randomly buy them one and don’t expect the favor returned. Sometimes I’ll even buy an extra beer and give it to someone sitting at the bar if I see their drink running low. I believe putting good energy out in the world creates good karma for yourself (or at least that’s what I tell myself). This entire concept should also be used for Ubering. Always ask someone to split it with you, as a courtesy, and if they forget to, then try to make an effort to call the next one.. and obviously don’t split it with them.

Bingo. That's why I also offer to take a buddy out if he's skint at the moment or down about something else and needs a break (Uber included). It's always come back in return. If you want good, do good.

In my close friend group, we always get rounds. I haven't seen people make a fuss over it since my college days. If the bill is less than 100 bucks, I think you could do it in rounds.

If we are a large group, say 8-10 people, at a restaurant, one person will pick up the bill+tips, and get Venmos.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

Do not send a Venmo request for anything under $10 (I'm tempted to say a higher limit but remember life as a 22 year old or poor college student).  Assuming your buddy was involved in the rounds you bought, deny the $8 request.  Unless someone is failing to feed themselves, in which case I question why you're out at a bar at all, this is totally inconsequential money and requesting $8 is a loser move that people will remember and rightfully judge.

Completely agree with you, but do you have any opinion on what to do when a good friend (always the same one) is never chipping in his fair part? Normally if I pay the first round somebody will pay the second, or the next time we go out and no one has hard feelings, but somewhat he never chips in because he's a Scrooge lol
Even if he offered I'd say no 99% of the time because I've been working for longer, but I can't help but feel frustrated.

If I’m understanding your post right, it’s reasonable to assume if you deny his offer to pay all the time… he won’t pay…?

How would he pay if you reject his offer to pay, I really don’t get it.

You want him to pay without asking you, is that your point?
