sorry, i don't allow anonymous posts anymore...cuts down on the junk posts and keeps the content a bit more high quality.
if you want to remain anonymous, you can create an account that has little or no information in your profile.
Anonymous Posting (Originally Posted: 06/29/2009)
I wish there was one place in the forum where you could truly post anonymously. I'd be happy to post the full details of our bonus structure for 1st-3rd years and name my bank, but then i'd be outed and sure enough some troll would search my entire posting history and nail me somehow.
I'd rather not try to create a second username, but just post as "Anonymous"
and maybe something like only certified users could post in there, so it wouldn't turn into a dealbreaker-like comment thread...
Citigroup bonus buckets for 1st year S&T analysts: 32k, 42k, 52k.
IBO used to have an anonymous posting right? Couldn't you just bring that back Patrick? The "my friend" posts are somewhat annoying. And for the certified thing, if it is possible, it would probably be better if non-certified users could only post but not reply, considering we/they often are the ones asking the bonus structure, resume, and other entry level questions that are embarrassing (Low GPA, school, sickness, etc.)
So what do you do? -I work for an investment banking firm. Oh okay; you are like my brother, he works for Edward Jones. -No, a college degree is required in my profession
That post just screams Morgan Stanley.
haha, i'll take that as a compliment!
Just make a second user name, I have one and I know others do as well.
Imagine what this forum would be like if all the posters were anonymous (Originally Posted: 05/21/2010)
This is a hypothetical situation, but imagine what it would be like if all the posters here were anonymous. This meant no post counts and no screen names.
I think it would be an interesting experiment for at least one subforum. The theory is that the posts would then be taken more for their value, and not just the post count of whatever user was posting it. This might mean less trolls whenever operations is mentioned as a career path, people would feel more free to voice controversial opinions, less "ooh look at how prestigious I am" threads, less models and bottles bullshit, ect.
What do you all think?
Umm, people post shit all the time. I dont know what forum you have been on, but post count doesn't mean shit.
pure anonymity would create more trolls, not less.. see: Zerohedge
I dont think anyone would give anyone else's posts any credit. It would just be a whole lot of:
Anon1: "you're a fucking idiot" Anon2: "I'm an MD at a BB IBD..." Anon1: "AHhAHA YEA IGHT I BETS YOUR JSUT EIGHT HAHAHA" Anon2: "I really hope nobody hires you" Anon1: "y cuz my 1337 skillz pwnzer you noob!>?!??!? HAHHAHA"
And that is the type of shit that is not needed.
Point well taken. Although, anonymity doesn't necessarily mean anarchy as long as there are still moderators that could weed out blatantly obvious trolls (maybe through the use of some kind of internal ID number or something for users).
As for the Zero Hedge comment, I don't think too many people take them that seriously. I used to read that blog a lot, but then it started getting WAY off the rails with conspiracy theories--either that, or I just didn't notice until lately.
Anonymity can foster trolls as well as insightful replies from people who genuinely want to help but also wanna remain anonymous. There are always two sides to the coin
Nobody gives a shit about their post count.
Yeah arguably ZH is a bad example as the posters themselves are not anonymous, only the commentors. My bad. However, still say that if all posts are anonymous it would be a madhouse.
People bitch about the quality of posting on this site and I think there is a pretty good system to set up the bullshit posts vs quality ones. Trust me, this site would go to hell if people were completely undetectable. Just look at what happened with Yahoo and comments.
I agree,
Exhibit A: 4Chan
This.
There was a lot of demand to put in "Stars" to identify those with industry experience versus the rest. You're looking to revert back to the old days (which people generally liked less).
As for post count, it really doesn't mean much. All high post count does is enable you to get a feel for a person's style if you are a frequent reader of the site. It also enables you to see who needs to get off the computer and enjoy some sunshine...
