How does a coverage banker lateral into M&A?

My coverage group is rather exotic in the sense that it's geographic instead of industry-oriented. Although fwiw, I work on a lot of healthcare deals.

The thing is I hate healthcare deals. I don't want to do healthcare M&A if I can pivot into an M&A group.

I self-study models during spare time. Any thoughts on how to complete the lateral process?
