how effective are higher up MO/BO office
I've found alumni from school who work at BB, but are MO/BO, I was wondering how effective are they or can be to get me a interview for FO if they pass on my resume? Should I even try to contact them or should I just I start cold-emailing non-alumni who are FO and hope they respond? My other question is i found an alumni at elite boutique who is the controller of the entire company. Can that person be affective in helping me out?
alums in mo/bo will have zero pull in helping you land a fo interview.
the controller should be able to help or at least direct you appropriately, as the mm is likely a smaller place. at the very least, he should be able to tell you who to send your resume to in the fo groups
unfortunately, this is very true
they are so AFFECTIVE. Affectively, they are your best bet of getting to the FO...
It all depends. An MO/BO VP/SVP/MD can probably get your resume looked at and perhaps get you a first round interview depending on who he knows and how much he wants to help you.
However, your idioms look affected when you don't spell the word effective.
I don't necessarily agree with the other posts.
A family friend of mine was an MD at a BB. He was an MD of a MO dept. and he got me FO interviews (this was when I was looking for SA positions).
ask them if they know anyone in the banking division. they most certainly can refer you, giving you an opportunity to network, which can improve your chances of getting an interview.
Yea it has worked for me before. I met an alum who was a VP in technology of all places. He worked with someone else in tech whose husband was a banker so he put me in touch with him. You never know and it doesn't hurt.
I've had a MO SVP and BO MD get me FO interviews. It all depends on the person.
You'll find people at that level don't really give a shit about the FO/BO distinction.
Thanks a lot for help. I will look into emailing both MO/BO people in high positions.
Depends on what MO/BO position, not all are created equal. I had a MO VP help get me a FO interview
If these are your only contacts, by all means try to leverage as much as you can with who you know. However, time is best spent reaching out to the right contacts than to use a shotgun approach and reach out to too many who won't be able to help as much.
MDs usually can't spare more than 15 minutes of their time anyway. I don't know how reaching out to them is a "shotgun approach" if you already have the connection.
