How far can you go as a Summer Analyst?
I've heard that summer analysts are mostly powerpoint/excel monkeys. I also heard from a VP that summer analysts are held back by their own knowledge (most come in knowing nothing).
I've got a year until my summer analyst position next summer and am learning in depth valuation skills (DCF/Relative) working for the student fund at my school. Additionally, I'll be three years older than the other interns. I'm confident that by the time I start I'll be comfortable modeling and can provide value.
Does it even matter that I'll be coming in with this knowledge? Will they recognize that and allow me to step-up or will I just be relegated to doing the mindless tasks.
How far can a Summer Analyst go?
They wont let you step up. It's good to have for your own knowledge but they wont give you any responsibility where fucking up a model can blow up in your face and cost the company money.
Depends on the firm, team and culture. There is a chance youll be able to step to the plate and there is a chance you'll be subjected to depths of hell with no ability to contribute. You should be able to figure this out through networking though. Keep calling around and talking to people to figure out what type of team they have. Had an alum who moved from GS to MS because of the better culture.
Why are you 3 years older if you don’t mind me asking?
Id est dolore voluptates doloribus. Quam eveniet aspernatur corporis.
