How feasible is a target to target transfer?

I’m a freshman at a target rn (Stern/Ross/Cornell). I see all the time on here IF they should transfer not HOW they can actually pull it off. I’m thinking of applying to HYW, maybe Columbia, and some others. I don’t think I can just say I’d want the better OCR and connections in my essay though. Has anyone actually done this and how? I’m sure everyone applies with great gpas and noticeable ECs, but not sure how to write a great essay for transferring since that’s probably the most important part. What reason should I put in the essay to make it compelling and not seem like I’m chasing prestige? Also does coming from a target help? Thanks

I did a similar thing except my school was little bit lower ranked than yours is(but still a target) and ended up at one of the schools you are talking about. So it's possible if you really want to!

But if your top of the bucket at stern/ross/dyson you can definitely break into IB. So you have to ask yourself is transferring really worth the effort?

I concluded it was to get more prestige/network etc, but again it's really case dependent and you are already at a fantastic school, so my path may not suit you

Yes I had nearly a 4.0, I was president of a club and on the eboard of a few others, and was a teaching assistant. I also had 2 off cycle internships in college before I applied one of which was in IB, the other was in the finance dept of a fortune 500 company. I also had pretty good extracurriculars in HS I played 3 sports one of which I won multiple championships in and was one of the top athletes on my team(which was a strong team at a HS known for sports). But I stopped junior year to produce music which I turned into a somewhat lucrative career. I also had good grades and test scores in HS. But went to 3 progressively worse HS due to family and money issues, so that was my big weak point. I ended up graduating from a HS where almost everyone drops out before even considering college.

But I still managed to get into a prestigious college. In my essays I talked a lot about my somewhat non traditional path. But I also talked about research opportunities(that I didn't have at my 1st college) and having more of a college experience. I commuted to my 1st college and expressed I wanted to find a college community. I also did a lot of research on professors who I wanted to take. In one essay I talked a lot about one semi famous prof who had somewhat of a non traditional background and drew similarities to our journeys. I think that helped a lot bc that was the one college I did get in to and attended. I got dinged from all the others(one of which I was a legacy at), so it's a very random process.

So to summarize write about things the college offers you that your current college couldn't. But more importantly, at least I think, is talk about what makes you unique bc there are hundreds of thousands of other strong candidates with perfect gpas and scores.

Feel free to ask questions I did a ton of research during this process and feel like I know a decent amount about college admissions.
