How Hard is ER -> Coverage Banking For Same Sector?
Let's say you are a top performer. Want to stay sellside and like the idea of being a coverage banker. How hard would this be to pull off?
Have you seen this happen?
Also, how much more chill are coverage hours compared to M&A?(I know it varies, but aren't they usually lighter?)
I’m sure you could switch from ER to banking really easily if you wanted to as a junior. Rarely see it happens because ER people are often in research because they don’t want to banking and vice versa.
Research MD to banking MD is rare but happens sometimes. I think the head tech banker at Barclays was a sellside analyst who switched over, few more examples I can think of.
any other anecdotes?
Rick Sherlund was #1 II in software for 17 years and is now a tech banker
