How is consulting and IB recruiting at Johns Hopkins
Im a sophomore at Hopkins and everyone says we are a non target school for both consulting and Investment banking. I think we do send quite a bit of people to MBB, however tier 2 firms heavily recruit for federal consulting and try to push students into that.
I find it weird how Hopkins is viewed especially since we are ranked #9 in the country right now and that is likely to go up more and more as the school has gained lots of notoriety. I get we are seen as stem/premed/foreign policy school, but why is the school still viewed as a non-target?
How can one overcome this and what are some thing that Hopkins student can tap into?
I think Johns Hopkins is an interesting/unique case in that while it is not a target in the traditional sense (compare alumni bases to other peer schools), it’s obviously a very good school.
I don’t know that the arbitrary classification of “nontarget” really matters at all or should even bother you, it’s a great school despite not having the deepest Wall Street connections or at least appearing that way. I will say JHU really markets itself as STEM/policy oriented; I distinctly remember touring campus and having that foregrounded constantly. I’m sure that also factors into the image considerably, as does the med school and APL.
In any case you shouldn’t really give a shit since it’s a great place to be and WSO’s “nontarget” labeling is pretty meaningless anyway.
