How is this possible? - Monopolies
So I'm a little confused. Last I checked, monopolies were illegal in this country. One of the regulators for TMT companies is the FCC. So, it is my impression that the FCC does not allow major conglomerates to have joint ventures with giant stakes....say 51/49 stakes.
When Comcast announced a joint venture with General Electric, how did it not set off any bells? Well, perhaps things went rather smoothly because the deal was getting much positive support from none other than Meredith Baker, the FCC Commissioner.
Well, good ol' Meredith just announced she'll be resigning June 3rd. Where to work in such a hard economy with 9% unemployment? Fortunately she was able to land a small job at Comcast as a SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS.
You can find the whole immoral story here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-tech/pos…
nothing to see here common folk move along move along. Government by the corrupt for the corrupt. Everyone gets a job at the SEC or FCC whatever X commission in order to hope to a politically connected job a few years down the line.
GE is also a "protected" species of the US government.
GE... did $5.1 billion in profit paid 0 in taxes... need I say more?
