How long to hear back after 1st round?
Wanted to get some feedback on this. I interviewed with a few MM firms within this past week for FT IB analyst jobs. How long does it normally take to hear back? A few days, a week, 2 weeks. Do they even get back to you if you didn't make it? Probably depends on the firms, but would like a consensus if possible. Also, If you feel it was a good interview, is it a good sign if they say "We'll be in touch in the next couple days." Just uber paranoid in these times.....
Speaking from anecdotal evidence, the bigger and more prestigious the bank, the sooner they'll get back to you. For example, the BB's I interviewed with took 2-3 days to notify, whereas the smaller boutiques/MM firms took up to two weeks to notify (both yes and no).
Are we talking 2-3 days this year or last year for BB?
So you basically find out regardless each time you interview one way or the other right?
Sometimes the "No" emails take longer than the "Yes" emails, in my limited experience. But they never just ignore you (or I've never heard of that). Even if you totally bombed your interview and they think you are a dumb fuck (which happens...or does to me every now and then) they still get back to you.
As far as how long, I've only interviewed for internships but its varied from 2 or even 3 weeks (interns in the fall sometimes get pushed back after the first round) to an hour after the interview when I shoot a thank-you email to the interviewer (or "lead" interviewer if its a second round) and get an immediate response saying they want to set up a time to bring me in (only happened with a smaller company, where the guy in charge of hiring could pretty much make the decision unilaterally).
at my target school, bulge brackets have been extremely quick - same day or next day if you get it, next day rejection if you don't- smaller firms may take several days
How long after first round to hear back? (Originally Posted: 09/14/2013)
Had an on campus first round on Thursday, forgot to ask when I would hear back by. How long does it typically take? Would they contact you over the weekend?
Anywhere from that day to a week, sometimes longer but hopefully not. Usually hear back in a few days, so maybe early next week for you. Good luck.

What round and for what level?
wrong post.
Finished second round for associate position.
Many people (myself included) received their offers same day after the final round. If the second round is the final round for you (as it usually is), I'd be concerned. When did they tell you that you'd hear back?
There is still final round after the second round according to the HR. Emailed the HR and said that interviewers have done feedback meeting yet.
If you go through, usually they tell you either the same day or the day after. It's not looking good.
OK, so there's still another round left? I doubt it happens before the new year.....so they may just really take their time choosing and getting together. Sorry I don't have any other insights
Yes, there is. This is not in the US office. Worst is to hear the news from them next year. Do you know if the performance in the Round 1 is still considered in deciding who pass the Round 2? Think I did an excellent job in Round 1 but a fair job in Round 2.
People hearing back for first round interviews now? (Originally Posted: 01/13/2012)
Are people hearing back regarding first round interview invites now? If so, did you use OCR or some other form?
Also: I was invited to a superday last year in March for SA and this was through the company website and not OCR so my question is: does that mean you technically have quite a while to potentially hear back about an interview because multiple super-days are held over the course of Jan-March?
Also: if you apply OCR do banks always notify you if you've been rejected?
If you apply through the website are you notified if you're rejected?
Sorry for so many questions, thanks guys
the only thing I can tell you, is that you will usually not find out you've been rejected by a bank when you apply through the website. You just kind of assume it after the position you want is gone or an inordinate amount of time has passed.
I don't think recruiting for S.A has fully taken off, looking at a friends OCR target, some application deadlines aren't until end of this month and first week of Feb. Hopefully you and me both get a chance to interview since no Ibanks recruit and I will be applying online and hopefully networking pays off..
my unfortunate friend missed resume drop deadlines for MS, GS, etc. but it looks like he can still apply through company websites. and yes, you will be notified either way if you apply via OCR.
Not true, you won't always be notified, (maybe at your school, but then I guess that's school-dependent.)
Timeline for hearing back depends on your school as well; people at my school have heard back from CS, LAZ, JPM, and a handful of other banks. Some deadlines have still not passed.
From a complete non-target.
Politely rejected from 3 MM bank's even for a first round. Waiting on the BB's, had 1 phone screen and have 1 first round lined up for the end of January.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

How many Days Does it Take to Hear Back After 1st Round? I had 1st round with GS and still have not heard anything after 8 days, time to move on or still a chance?
You might want to follow up with you HR rep but that does seem like a good amount of time. I heard back from GS relatively quickly.
I heard back in 4 days and the guy who called me apologized profusely for it taking so long to get back to me. Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying you didn't get another interview. Just saying it's probably been enough time for you to contact them and inquire about your status. Good Luck!

Hearing Back After First Round (Originally Posted: 01/27/2012)
I had a first round interview with a BB late last week, and was told that I would hear back sometime this week. I haven't gotten any response yet. I assume this means a ding, but do you think that it is appropriate to follow up with the person who interviewed me or with someone in HR?
wondering the same thing, it has been a few days for me as well....startin to get worried
I'd wait till monday then send a follow up email.
Would you advise following up with HR or the guy who interviewed me?
Follow up with HR. But seriously if they said you would hear back this week and you haven't heard back until now (Friday), it means (1) you got ding or (2) you're waitlisted.
Should have followed up earlier, but definitely do so now. Mostly likely dinged, but hopefully waitlisted.
interested
It's a ding....Trust me.

Up to how long do banks wait before telling the candidates if they made it or not to super day?
In particular, any news on Goldman IM?
it depends i heard of people who were told right away, in the same week. usually they put off a couple weeks before rejecting people.

not interviewed, nor plan on interviewing for GS. However I can tell you about my experience with first rounds. I actually had a first round interview and was invited to a superday. Usually, from my experience, if it;s a first round phone or an in person interview they call you the same day or the next day. Again, this is from my experience. But during these times you never know. I would follow up with the HR person and ask him or her when super day candidates will be chosen. Best of luck.
if its banking, they tend to tell u right away. the superdays tend to be at the end of week on a fri/saturday.
when i interviewed for ops or other mid/back office positions, they took a couple of days to a week to let you know.
From someone who went through it, First round was on campus. Heard back after 2weeks for superday. Next day reply for superday decision. 7am sharp.
depends. can range from one day to 2 weeks. when i was recruiting, i usually heard back right away, as banks were moving fast to fill their needs.
Haven't heard back after the 1st round ocr interview (Originally Posted: 02/11/2010)
Had an on-campus interview with a BB earlier this week and still waiting to hear back from the company... is this normal? As more days are slipping by I'm slowly leaning toward the bad news, but I wonder why they just don't shoot me a simple and sweet rejection email. Can I still weigh some hope here?
Depends on the company, but generally they get back to you pretty quickly if they are interested in pursuing you.
i wouldn't put too much hope in it... unless the final rounds are weeks away. Otherwise they'd let you know within the next couple of days.
Yeah I'm not putting too much hope in it either. But will this ever be the case that I NEVER hear back from the company? After all, I interviewed with two different divisions at the same bank and neither of them is sending anything to me.
These days, a lot of companies never get back to you with a rejection. I find it to be pretty unprofessional, but whatever. The rule of thumb I use is that if I don't hear back within 72 hours I'm dinged.
One time, an HR lady from Tishman Speyer, with whom I had interviewed with the day before, left me a voicemail asking me to call her back. I called back expecting an invite to second rounds. Instead, she told me that I wouldn't be progressed further, lol. I guess it's their policy to verbally and directly (not via voicemail) inform candidates of their rejection.
yea you might never hear back. I know MS doesn't even bother calling/emailing. If you haven't heard back you are probably done.
GS didn't bother to reject me, they didn't even reply to my follow up email. It's pretty pathetic tbh.
ok, then I'm done with that company....

Simple question - do banks notify you by email if you didn't make it through to the 2nd round? The 2nd round is coming up very soon for me and im tired of being anxious to find out. Should i call HR and simply ask?
They'll almost always notify you if you didn't make it to the 2nd round. However, no guarantees that they notify you before the second round actually happens. Giving them a call shouldn't hurt.
Numerous rejections in my past, and all have been different. A few have called, some have e-mailed, and some have not said a word. For the ones that did notify me, it was usually after they extended second rounds to my peers, as the banks wanted to ensure they could fill all slots for the next round.
if u liked the firm and the interview went very well...u could try following up with ur interviewer via email to reiterate your strong interest in the firm. this worked out for me twice - i got superday invites even tho the "real" invites had been sent days earlier. i think they were just filling a cancellation with someone who wanted to be there...but hey, a superday is a superday.
i never got a call after the 1st round even though my interviewer told me at the end of my interview that i would be going to the 2nd round (this was back in mid-jan)
now i get an email saying they're still waiting to make decisions. am i pretty much dinged? how can they make hiring decisions when i haven't even gone to superday?
My longest wait: 1st round interview in mid/mid-late December. Officially heard back positively around late January (although there was indication before this that I would be moving on).
god damn... the 2nd round is tomorrow and we were supposed to find out by this morning at the latest. looks like i didnt make it. they could have at least sent an email
i'm sick of firms that ignore candidates once they decide they dont need them.
No one's ignoring you. If the firm passed on your candidacy, you'll at least get a rejection letter by March.
GS 1st Round, when to hear back?? (Originally Posted: 02/11/2011)
This is for SA IBD.
Had first round phone interview beginning of this month. The phone interview went very well (My interviewer is at GS SF) at the end of the interview told me that the HR will let me know when to move on to the next step.
Haven't heard it back yet, sent an email to follow up with HR yesterday and no response. A very senior banker is rooting for me too.
What to do next? Call the HR? Call my contact?
I really need some inputs guys, thank you!!!
honestly bro, if you don't hear back within a week you're probably dinged. Every time I've gotten a second round for any firm it's always been within a week.
Took two days
3 days.
guess i got dinged. thanks anyway.
got notice of a superday the night of my first round. Just finished the superday....hoping I made it.
Hope you can make it man! Good luck!
Thanks man. I worked my butt off preparing for interviews this week. I'm really stressing now since I haven't heard a call back today. Hopefully I didn't get dinged. I'm crossing my fingers
