4-6 is generally the norm. Heard of some processes only having 3. The order typically begins with HR and then each firm is different. Some have you interview with an associate and others could start you with an analyst after the initial HR contact.

Just had a brief call with director and moving onto 3rd round with a senior associate. The call with HR and director were rather non-technical with just some statement questions, would expect the SA to be more technical. Would you say there should be 2-3 more rounds of this where I get tested for modeling then a final round with 2-3 director/analysts?

I wouldn't expect there to be three more rounds if you have already spoken with a director. Prepare with the typical technical questions and have a stock pitch ready to go for this next interview. When they ask you for questions your question could be about the process. Something like "Once again I really appreciate your time, my question is actually regarding the process and how many more interviews there typically are?"

I had 8 rounds, first 5 rounds (highest rank head to lowest rank associate) meeting with team, then writing and modelling tests, 2nd stage f2f with hiring analyst, final round with sales

Similar standard questions but a bit more thematic questions probably they speak to buy side more…

Best to demonstrate your marketing skills (market urself) to a sales person.

Interviewed at 2 different firms for an associate role covering a relatively niche space. One firm had ~15 individual conversations ranging from sales to everyone in the broader industry group to research management plus a week-long take-home project with a presentation while the other was ~8 rounds (similar cohort of people) also with a week-long take-home project. For each process I was within final 2 candidates (ended up at one of the firms) and both analysts are top-3 for the sector. Wouldn’t necessarily expect this for all processes but definitely the norm for good seats with quality analysts.
