How much can you trust HR?
Hi all,
If you're an SA/FT at a BB/EB, how much can you trust HR to be discrete with what you tell them (e.g. how happy you are, potential plans to switch/move around, the inner pros/cons with the group?)

Not at all. HR is not your friend.
This is the right answer. Dont tell them anything.
Only share everything you hate about the company with HR. Best to keep the good things to yourself
HR is the devil.
Just remember who pays them and what they're paid to do. It's definitely not to be your friend and listen to your feelings.
Trusting HR is roughly equivalent to playing with a water moccasin and trusting it not to bite you.
...also in this scenario you're a fish/frog.
Only trust them to help you resolve any issues may have in terms of pay/benefits. Otherwise, do not trust them.
HR is there to protect the company. Not you.
Always remember this.
Is it appropriate to call your HR contact regarding offers a few weeks following your internship? Got an email last week saying they'd be in touch, haven't heard back since. Got perfect final performance reviews so am bit concerned I may have said too much to the HR person regarding my interests.
Yup totally fine. I did this after not hearing back from a first round.
HR has one job. To protect the company from employee litigation. It isn't complicated.
ZERO
"Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate. So, he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced. So he's really not a part of his family"
-Michael Scott
10/10 fuck Toby
Tobinco unequivocally has the best HR of all time.
I just imagine anything that i tell HR, i might as well be telling to the "Subject" directly. Except replace "Subject" with the person who would take the news the most personally, has the power to fire you, and has enough connections to blackball you.

Perhaps written on a chinese tea leaf somewhere: "HR - Neither Human nor Resourceful"
PS. I deal with HR on a occasional basis for M&A and (my god) you'd be hard pressed to find better corporate soldiers. They take cost cutting initiatives to heart; sometimes even more so than our business leaders.
Leverage HR, but dont trust HR
Very well put!
HR is there to protect the company, not you.
