How much do promotions matter in the context of getting admitted to a top MBA?
Hi. I'm a 2nd year tech / ops rotational analyst at a BB in NYC. Both years I have done internal consulting type work - first year data analytics / strategy, second (current) year program management / execution. I really do not like what I do.
I have the right stats for a T10 MBA - white male, but 760 GMAT, good extracurriculars, T50 undergrad, engineering / finance double major.
Career progression could look like this pre-MBA if I stay on my path:
(1) Analyst Internal Consulting (IC) -> Associate IC -> VP IC -> T10 MBA to transition to client-facing consulting, or some other industry. Lots of optionality here and "makes sense".
However currently considering a jump to S&T. The good news is I'm pretty eager to try my hand at S&T, the bad news is I feel it dampens my MBA profile. See below for the career progression that makes sense.
(2) Analyst Internal Consulting (IC) -> Analyst S&T (would have to "start over" as an analyst) -> Maybe Associate S&T -> T10 MBA.
I've heard S&T to MBA is pretty much useless, and I'm also concerned about the lack of narrative to my profile. However, I am very much into the idea of trying out S&T, feel I would learn and grow a lot more in that even at the analyst level which is very important to me.
Looking for any and all advice, thanks.
