Financial Analyst at Amazon?
Hi,
I'm going to be starting a job as an entry level Financial analyst at Amazon pretty soon and I was just wondering what exactly this job would entail, in terms of day to day duties/projects/skills need? I have had zero experience working in corporate finance before this, so any advice would be helpful.
If it helps I think I might be put into a product finance team (i.e. Amazon Fire, Kindle, etc.) Any insights on Amazon in general or exit opps would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Maybe start with the job description? Financial Analyst means a lot of things to me.
Sorry, the job description is really vague too: https://www.amazon.jobs/en/jobs/351908
DESCRIPTION
Amazon is seeking data-driven, business-minded, results-oriented Financial Analyst to work in our corporate offices in Seattle, Washington. The ideal candidate is a proven self-starter with strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to dive deep.
Typical responsibilities include: · Preparation and reporting of financial performance for weekly, monthly, and annual reviews · Producing meaningful operational metrics to help drive performance and achieve business objectives. · Apply financial acumen and technical understanding to provide insights on growth, profitability, capital investment, and cash flow
You're right, that is really vague. So you've already interviewed for this position? Why did you not ask them the details of what the day-to-day entails?
How do you accept a job offer without knowing what it entails?? Probably FP&A type of stuff though (forecasting, budgeting, pricing etc)
Isn't it sort of a pre-req for most entry-level work, to not know what the job entails? I'm certain that they slip incumbents a bunch of jargon for this very reason. It does sound like FP&A though.
Hey, I was looking to answer the same question. Any update on your experience? Can you give an insight of what is the day to day job? Do you have any perspective on what are the exit opps? Thanks in advance
You learn a lot working here, given the scale of the company and diversity of the businesses. You'll get a lot more responsibility (and probably work longer in term of corp fin) than other companies. All new finance hires now come through the rotation program, so day to day varies depending on the rotation you're in. It'll mostly be reporting and analysis (I know very vague). Exist opps I'm not sure of exactly, but at Amazon it is very easy to switch job families (i.e. become a program or product manager, vendor manager, etc.) if you have the base skills (which finance gives you).
If you don't mind me asking what is the comp like?
~$75k all in first year.
Got rejected from Amazon Financial Analyst posistion (Originally Posted: 02/24/2015)
Rejected after super day at Amazon for FA position. Pretty gutted as I put all my chips into this internship.
I feel like my back is against the wall and no matter how depressed I am, I will claw tooth and nail to prevent spending this summer without an internship.
Do you think I still have time in the year to find a summer internship in finance or something related?
I'm going to start applying in San Francisco and New York. (Friends who can provide housing are in the area). Need some words of wisdom on how to approach these next few months would be greatly appreciated.
Freshman year I interned for a marketing company and sophomore year I interned for Apple, this is my junior year and the most important.
why did you only do apply to one fucking internship. sorry.
you still have time, but it'll be due to networking. reach out to old Apple contacts and try to get your resume in as many eyes as possible. some smaller names are still hiring for fall and will continue up until April.
good luck, you got this.
I applied to more than one internship. But only heard back from Amazon and an Insurance company. Didn't make the cut for either. By putting all my chips into one, I mean't during the Amazon process I stopped applying.
Thanks for the advice and I'll need the luck!
