How much does it matter to you that your SO makes (or doesn't make) money?

when i think about my financial goals & plans for the future, for the most part i don't include my gf's income. but the reality is that the majority of us will end up marrying and should think about finances on a consolidated household basis. she doesn't make much money relative to what i make, isn't super ambitious, and her earnings growth prospects are low. in contrast to mine, i know of relationships where both partners can basically keep pace with one another.

i don't foresee this actually mattering to me much, but sometimes i do feel like it'd be nice to think about my income and effectively double it when thinking about financial plans/goals. i imagine there are potential downsides to having a high-earning SO as well, though.

curious if people think about it differently: whether people prefer a low-earning SO, high-earning SO, or really don't care.

I don't think the absoloute amount matters, but I'd screen for how they use money and how we share the burden. I honestly couldn't see myself with someone who spends money like the french revolution, just because I would have an anxiety attack, but the absoloute value matters less.

Also I don't want to be the slush fund for the relationship yano?

I think I would also like a girl to be similar to the Venture Capital Mogul that Bobby Axelrod was dating for a while.

Except more attractive

I agree with above. As long as they’re not deeply net negative, then it shouldn’t really matter. Keep in mind that if you’re in finance you’re well ahead of most Americans, and even further ahead than most of the world.

Things can change too. My wife went from $50k and is well on her way to $110k ish. Her income potential is pretty damn high. Such is the nature of the industry sometimes. You never know

Edit: Also, even if my wife stayed at $50k (or even $30k for that matter), it doesn’t change that I want a life with her. Our life plans can change for investments and such, but not my willingness to be with her.

it doesnt fucking matter i make more than i know what to do with myself find a chick who's gonna be a good mom and who can do all the shit around the house. do you want to know some shit? i have to take out the trash because my wife is 4'11'' and says she can't heave the trash bag over the fucking height of the bin? that is fucking absurd. get a step ladder you whore. and my cleanliness standards are way higher than hers so im always walking around picking shit up THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE WHEN I MAKE 10X WHAT YOU DO

I dated this one chick where the premise was if we stayed together, I would be set for life. She was from a mega rich family super connected and I would not have to work. Even though this was the case, she earned a valuable masters degree and had interests in the arts. I didn't want to get married to her though, but often thought how easy life would be with her.

She was a actress in some well known films and series.

You really need to ask someone who is married and maintains a lifestyle in the city that you are targeting. No point listening to 25 year olds who think they’re rainmakers at $200k or 35 year olds who brag about friendzoning bottom of the barrel girls on anonymous online forums

Love is important but there are a lot of other things that are more so

Corporate girls are fucking insufferable. Either not career driven, or career driven in a field like nursing, teaching, etc.
