How much harder is FT recruiting?

Hey guys,

So I received an offer this week at a pretty decent name MM bank, think (Raymond, Cantor, KeyBank) type thing and I am wondering how hard it will be to lateral next year to a BB. My interviewing skills were not nearly where they needed to be this recruiting season, but I know that if I got the opportunity next year, I would certainly land a BB job (based on this years difficulty).

Will FT recruiting by much harder than this year with a lot less spots or will a decent name, GPA, give me the chance to interview next year as well?

First of all, congrats on the offer!

Yes, FT recruiting will likely be much harder given how few spots will be open, so to have a chance, you'll need to stay on top of networking/keeping in touch so you don't miss any opportunities that do arise.

The most important thing at this point is to work hard to secure a return offer whether you want to go back or not, and don't give your future team the impression that you want to jump ship.

Regardless of whether FT recruiting works out, try to keep things in perspective. The names you mentioned are still great places to start your career and you'll have plenty of opportunities open to you whether you decide to lateral or not.
