How much networking needed in AM?
I heard that in general networking is less necessary going into AM jobs or AM focused firms (think Fidelity). Is it true, or networking is as important as in investment banking?
Thank you!!

Like any other finance related jobs, networking is important in Asset Management too.
I would even say more important since it's a smaller universe depending on how broadly you're defining AM.
Networking is everything in this industry, just like the rest of finance. It's how I got a great analyst job with an arts degree.

How useful is networking for entry level Asset Management careers? I see so much on this forum about investment banking networking, and networking seems to be the norm in IB. I am trying to expand my network and maybe contact some alumni in asset management. Is networking as accepted in asset management as in IB? Are there any areas in asset management where networking may be more effective, or is it just the way it is in investment banking, for the entire industry? Thanks everyone.
It's probably more effective, even. In my experience most AM jobs, even middle office or back office jobs, tend to be filled by referred candidates.
It’s always effective, it’s just about getting to know people in your area of interest. You get a chance to learn and try to impress them and it can lead to an offer/interview. So, it basically applies to any field.
