How much networking needed in AM?

Rank: Monkey | 65

I heard that in general networking is less necessary going into AM jobs or AM focused firms (think Fidelity). Is it true, or networking is as important as in investment banking?
Thank you!!

Like any other finance related jobs, networking is important in Asset Management too.

I would even say more important since it's a smaller universe depending on how broadly you're defining AM.

Networking is everything in this industry, just like the rest of finance. It's how I got a great analyst job with an arts degree.

It's probably more effective, even. In my experience most AM jobs, even middle office or back office jobs, tend to be filled by referred candidates.

It's always effective, it's just about getting to know people in your area of interest. You get a chance to learn and try to impress them and it can lead to an offer/interview. So, it basically applies to any field.
