How much vacation do first year analysts get?
Curious what it's like in the States and the UK - in Canada at a Euro bank I get 20 days as a first year IB Analyst.

15 days in my offer letter but I'm 10 months into the job and have used 0 days
Yup, 15 days per calendar year. In my first year, I got 7 since I started in July and none carried over. In 2021 i used 5 of my 15 annually. Every second year gets a week off in December and will probably take a few days in October or Thanksgiving.
Yeah not sure you should expect the same in the states
I get two weeks. We are allowed to take max five consecutive days. Our group head encourages analysts to take at least one full week off a year, but that is not the case for all the teams at the bank.
25 days. Plan on using them all (UK).
I got 20 days at US BB. I took all 20 days (4 full week vacations including both weekends surrounding the 5 days) and then a bit of time off around Thanksgiving, so probably more than 20 days total. This was at a pretty sweaty group also... so I guess I got lucky.
I mean, nobody’s counting. Just ask for days off and then tell your teams.. nobody’s saying no to holidays 3 months from now but maybe US different
We count lol a few firms its very bad look for a first year to take time off
Just to clarify on my post, taking four weeks off as a 1st/2nd year wasn’t the norm but also wasn’t uncommon. Typically analysts take 2-4.5 weeks off per year, depending on your luck. Analysts are expected to take 2 weeks of vacation per year. Additionally, depending on your staffings, Thanksgiving week is off starting Wednesday and the two weeks for Christmas/NYE are also off. No one counts vacation time on holidays, but you’re only expected to work if you have to for time sensitive live deals. Some clients also have “dark” periods over the holidays, so work will be paused. Really depends on your luck and what you’re on though. A good share of analysts will have nothing to do. This is for a top tier BB and policy was pretty consistent across groups.
