How often are signing bonuses clawed back if you quit within the clawback period?
Title^ my signing bonus is a 12 month clawback period and I am leaving within 3 months or so of joining up. Large company (Berkadia, W&D, Greystone). Thanks!

Does your offer letter or other agreements you signed state that signing bonuses will be clawed back?
The offer letter states it can be requested back if basically I leave or am fired within 12 months. Just wondering how often they actually come back for it, considering a larger company.
Given that it’s only been three months, I doubt they will forget about it. The easiest move for them is to dock your final paycheck, not sure if that will cover all of it, but if does, problem solved (they may also credit you with any unused PTO, which you probably don’t have much of).
Will they request a payback beyond any of that? I’d say it’s a very possible, especially if your boss and/or department head (MD/EVP type) is pissed off about your departure (like feels you lied to them or something).
If they feel this “just didn’t work”’mutually, then less likely to pursue. And yes, it’s probably your department/unit that makes the call, with HR and legal input as needed.
But bottom line, don’t be surprised to get a demand letter soon after you depart. Is it 100% assures? Probably not, but leaving so soon into the gig def ups the probabilities IMHO.
