How often do people ask about your first job out of college?

Just graduated from a target school, took some bad advice and ended up at a mediocre company. I’m in my early 20s so I don’t have a lot of life perspective yet. Do folks in the late 20s or older get asked about their first job out of college much? Like in social situations. Kinda embarrassed about it tbh

Its all anyone talks about (when you're in the position). After, not so much.

Look for another position - I hope you're already applying for places.

Life is okay OP. It’ll make for an interesting comeback story. Yeah, it might feel bad in the moment. But long term just keep pushing forward and be aggressive at getting where you want to go.

Maybe you won’t be the “perfect” GS TMT -> KKR -> HBS -> BX profile. But as the line of one of my favorite movies goes, “At least I won’t be unoriginal.”

The older you get, the easier it is to gloss over it very quickly. "I graduated and worked for a" ... "boutique firm" / "in industry" / "as a practitioner" / "in accounting" / "in sales" / "local firm for a little while" etc.

It will still be focused on as part of your story should you go back and get your MBA, even if you upgraded between then. Afterward, not many people care.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
