Sunday phone call, visit 2-3 times a year
Try and visit 3-5 times a year. Usually call them every night or every other.
Usually 2-3 times / week call.
Visit ~6 times a year. Hour flight, pretty easy
I talk to my mom probably 5X a week and visit her like once a month. Talking to her is really a chore, but I'm largely the only person she can talk to like that in her life, so it's just a thing to do. I try to talk to my grandparents when I remember too. That is very much a chore as well and often turns into a debate about socialism or some shit like that.
I alternate talking and a visit every week. I live 15min away and they're right next to my Costco so it works out well.
So many important life decisions have been made based off proximity to Costco
Is he implying that if Costco wasn't nearby, he would be less inclined to visit his parents?
Visit Mom about once a week, we only live a couple of miles apart. Usually call her once or twice a week. Try to call my uncle, her brother, every week or so and try to see him once every month or so.
Generally speak on phone or facetime 2x per week. Try and make it home 4/5 timer per year (4 hour drive)
Post graduation, I find that I visit my parents a lot more often despite living further than I did at school. Call both parents about 1-2 times a week.
I talk with them once per week, usually via phone. At least once per month I'll take the hour train ride up to see them. It's always on Sunday though. Sometimes during the week I'll call and very rarely I'll see them during the week (mother got Lasik recently so I took her to the spot).
Visit 1-2 times per week unless really busy and talk once a day at some point ( live in the same city a few miles away).
I see them probably 5-6 times a year by now, which has increased since I moved out First (then it was 2times). When I was in Singapore I couldn’t visit, then phone calls got much more frequent. But generally, I’m texting with them everyday
whatsapp/facetime usually once a week. Visit my home country 2-3 times a year
1 call a week on Sunday. I’m a 3 hour drive away from where I grew up so I tend to go home once every 4-5 weeks - they also live where all my old friends still stay so that’s nice.
How the hell do you guys who call your parents 3x + a week? Tf do you talk about? Lol
Most calls only last a couple minutes unless there is a topic to discuss. Really just to check in. My father passed away almost 12 years ago and my mom isn’t dating anyone right now so I always feel the need to check in.
Yeah def, makes sense.
I speak with my parents 1-2x a week. I see then 1-2x a month. I live a half hour from both of them, so getting together isn't hard to do.
Call 2-4x week. Visit 4-6 times a year.
Real men don't need to visit or call their parents. They are their parents.
Call once a week and visit once a year (Christmas).
Thank god! Was feeling like a real piece of work for a bit there
Visit once a month (they're only an hour drive north) and call once a week, we text a few times a week though
I move back to my country so that I can take care of my parents; we have four full time maids that live with us. I live with them and make time to eat dinner with them everyday during the weekdays. As the eldest son, when I get married, I plan to either live with my parents or live close enough to them so that I can take care of them until they pass away. Not going to let them die alone or put them away to retirement homes. After living away from home for more than 10 years, that was a conscious decision that I made since family is very important to me.
I am fortunate enough to live about an hour away from my parents - we still have one of my grandparents with us as well (lives with them now). Moving back to the general area was important to me during buyside recruiting -- some of my professional peers may have argued it was career-limiting to a minor extent, but there isn't a day that goes by where I regret my decision.
On average, I'd say I speak to one of them a day on the phone. I try to make it home for a visit and dinner with them ~2 times a month.
While they don't necessarily fully understand what I do or how crazy work can be, they respect my work ethic, know I am dedicated to my career, and are very proud of me. I am lucky to have them as a support system. During my banking years it was very comforting to know they were just a phone call away. Calls were never for complaining about how much work I had to get done, how little I had slept recently, or a nightmare superior -- just a brief escape from the office where I could re-center myself and hear a loving voice. I owe them a lot in that respect and really try to be there for them as much as I can now while juggling my own personal life and career.
Call every day and visit ~5 times a year (35 minute flight). They visit me in between because we have family in the city where I work.
As much as I can. I try to keep as close to my parents and relatives as possible.
