How Often to Follow Up with Busy Analyst?
I got put in touch with an analyst by a very senior MD who wanted to me reach out back to him after talking to the analyst. However, it seems as though this analyst has been really busy and hasn't really been responding to emails. He suggested a time which didn't really work well for me however letting him know I haven't been able to hear back from him even after following up. I followed up several times however it seems as though this analyst is just too busy to talk on the phone. I don't want to be overbearing by sending him even more follow up emails however I also don't want to piss off this MD by making him wait too long as he wanted to put me in touch with other people as well. What should I do in this situation as most analysts I have emailed have been pretty responsive and willing to chat.
What's the timeline? How long have you waited between follow ups? Really nothing you can do other than follow up with him again.
A few days between follow ups its about been 2 weeks since I got put in touch w him. He responded once when I first emailed him then responded again about getting coffee but I am not where he is so I can't get coffee w him. I followed up again after that but never heard back. I don't want to be overbearing and piss him off and want to be able to leave a good impression as I think that the MD likes me a lot, however I don't want to make the MD think I am blowing him off
I typically use a 1 week wait time before I follow up (just in case they're busy/that week is especially crazy/etc) but he could just as easily have been so busy that he either forgot or hasn't seen the email.
It's tricky, you need to contact him but can't pester him so much that he gets turned off by it. I'd recommend to wait a week since your last email to him, then follow up again if there's nothing by then. He's obv given you enough thought to respond and then to offer for coffee, considering he knows the MD referred you he'll want to speak with you regardless. Play the waiting game and be respectful, he's bound to see your email sooner or later if you follow up periodically, although I do understand the time sensitivity as you want to follow up with your MD post convo. Tricky tricky.
cc the MD on the next email and ask the analyst if Wednesday or Thursday works better for a quick call.
That seems like a mega power move lol I think this guy is genuinely rlly busy since he is in a pretty intense product group
game recognizes game haha
+SB
LOL idk if OP should do this... seems passive aggressive. rmbr OP should not just try to tap the MD, s/he should also build good relations with the MD AND the analyst imo
wellllll currently he has no relationship with the analyst soooo change strategy
Should I just email the MD and say that we have been having a hard time setting something up cause it seems as though this analyst is rlly busy and to put me in touch w someone else while I wait for this guy.
Following up with a miserable analyst? (Originally Posted: 10/17/2012)
A few days ago I met an alum who just started his analyst stint at a BB. Well, the entire time he sounded extremely miserable. He talked about his lack of sleep and how the lifestyle is destroying him. The entire time, I felt like I was talking to a ticking time bomb. I was surprised he didn't punch me in the face just to release some steam.
Should I even follow up with this guy?
No, not being able to set up a simple chat over a span of few weeks makes you look terribly incompetent.
If anything, this would make me want to follow up with him more. Misery loves company, right?
Why not? But take it slow and don't take it personally if he doesn't respond. I know I don't when I'm swamped.
Polite brief emails = always fine.
the miserable ones always want someone to talk to. Let him do the talking and ask for from referrals later.
def follow up with ppl even if u dont want to
Maybe you should learn something from him about how desirable the job you're seeking is...
A year ago, he probably had the same attitude as you do now about how awesome this job would be.
every other week i get an alert from mint and things become okay again.
I'm miserable to ... call me maybe?
Go to a once a day email ... the analyst likely is busy, but being able to be polite and firm with busy people is a job requirement
Am I being annoying? How often should I follow up while job searching? (Originally Posted: 07/20/2017)
Hi everyone,
As the username shows, I'm currently job searching since I've been in the same role since university as a csr/bank teller from one of the big 5 banks in Canada. I've been trying to leverage my alumni network but again as the username shows, it's a bit tough.
I managed to have by chance coffee with 2-soon to be 3 alumni and two others (total of 5 chats in the last month). I think it's great momentum that I've built however I keep emailing back to this one alumni that seems to be really connected for more referrals. I've probably emailed him at least once or twice a week since we've met up. From my perspective/my understanding, I should only try and reach out to follow up when I hit a milestone ie my 3 year anniversary or finish a certification perhaps (CSC - canadian version of Series 7/CFA level) or just to try and reconnect during holidays ie Merry Christmas John Smith, want to catch up and grab a coffee?
I also wanted to get everyone's take on paying for networking events. I'm currently pursuing opportunities in CRE (specifically leasing/underwriting but maybe i should expand my search for other valuation type roles) and happen to learn about ULI/NAIOP (industry organizations) but they cost about 50-100 per event. Ultimately I feel like I may as well sign up for LinkedIn premium. In the end, it's about the same as paying for a top 20 mba just for the network.
So TL;DR do you think i'm getting annoying with the email follow ups once or twice a week? and should I be paying for industry networking events or would I have better luck on LinkedIn premium?
Lol once a day is way too often
after two weeks of email tag ... come on - the meek aren't going to get the job!
bump
definitely tone down the emails if they're not responding it's too much. You should've asked for more contacts at the end of your chat and followed up with a thank you and reconnect every now and then when something relevant comes up
They're responding well but they seem to only refer one at a time. I do try and thank them whenever too
yo so should i cc the MD or just wait a week lol
Write an strongly worded email to the MD expressing your concern and dissatisfaction with the timeliness of the analysts responses - and add that your father will certainly be hearing about this.
In all seriousness wait the week and shoot across and email but pls do not email the MD
