If it's something you have to pay for, I'd stick to looking at straight outperformance over a time horizon and then assess the philosophy (whether it aligns with how you think), process (whether it is repeatable), and ppl (whether they are nice people and come from good lineage, ie. used to work at brand name funds) to come to conclusion of whether you want to work for them. 

I dunno how Whalescore works, but I presume it's using backward looking outcome to arrive at a composite number and they charge you to look at it. But those don't tell you anything about how a fund will do going forward.
