How rude are unsolicited Zoom meetings?

Maybe I am taking this too personally, but I find unsolicited/unnecessary Zoom meetings to be more than an annoyance. I no longer turn my camera on under basically any circumstance. I don't know why people feel the need to view your face sitting in your apartment. Zoom has created an utter lack of respect for people's time and privacy.

The sad part is this is going to continue forever. Bring back phone calls.

I'm in B school so occasionally it's prospective students (to which I decline and call their cell) or group projects. These people shoot these things out like they're nothing. Maybe over the top but I'm to the point where I think it's actually rude. Just keep it over the phone unless everyone communicates they'd like to do otherwise.

EDIT: currently on a 1hr Zoom for a group "project" where we are discussing how to tackle a few PPT slides. I've dodged the last three weeks so felt obligated.

It's kind of funny that I'm watching these types of people be spawned at school ready to move on to the corporate world where they will annoy everyone around them and waste time. Future leaders for sure.

I noticed that the people who will be working in consulting at my school have a higher propensity for this nonsense....go figure.

Yeah, but then you're sitting at your desk...I guess using your phone can solve that, but I think that 80% of these meetings can be handled via phone.
