How Should I Go About This?

Hello,

I have been networking very hard with a BB bank. I recently got to know everyone on this team very well and even had a reputable connection refer me to them. A job recently opened up on the team and I reached out to an MD and asked if I can personally send him my resume. He responded by saying I should go through the banks online portal. The problem with that is the bank is particularly known for being extremely strict GPA requirements, and I have a STRONG feeling I will not even get through HR.

My question is, how should I respond to this? Did I maybe rub him the wrong way (no signs indicate this) or should I be honest and just say it will be very hard to get through HR given I have lower GPA, but make up for it in other areas (2 relevant internships, ECs, etc.)

Thanks,
