How to apply to MM IBD?
I go to a target and the BBs and larger MM ibanks (ie Jefferies, Houliahan, Macquarie) come on campus to recruit. However, I don't see many other MM banks (Greenhill, Gleacher, Sandler, etc.) doing on campus interviews. which is understandable since their incoming analyst class is much smaller. How are you guys finding positions at MM ibanks. Are you just applying via the company's websites? I know at BB those never get looked at, but do HR people at MM pay attention to unsolicited submissions? I've also heard that a lot of MM recruit into the spring. Any truth to that?
Greenhill isn't exactly MM. Find alumni connections at the banks and then contact them.
As most have said, you have to go through the alumni network and try to get people who work at those banks to talk to you. Work your way up the ranks of people, and if they like you enough, they'll put your resume though to the interview rounds. I hope this helps and isn't too repetitive.
lifesucks,
this question really makes me believe you lack creativity, there is life outside OCR
I can testify to the fact that middle market("boutique")banks such as Houlihan Lokey and Greenhill respond to their website responses. I went to a target school as well, and I received emails from Houlihan Lokey requesting an interview. I had mentioned that I didn't think they looked at the applications on the site due to sheer volume, and he had told me that they did targeted search for all applicants from a certain school.
I agree with jatinb123, that smaller banks respond more to resume submissions via their website. I just got called for an interview today, by a MM bank today and I submitted my resume through its website. Didn't think it was gonna get looked at, but apparently it did.
You guys need to learn the difference between MM and boutique.
Don't blend in with everyone else. Its the person with the balls to start cold calling that is going to get more interviews than those who endlessly drop on OCR.
