How do you become the best analyst in the class?
Dear everyone,
Just wondering how to become the #1 analyst in your incoming class. Obviously I want to blow everyone out of the water and leave the stragglers behind so how can I become #1 without playing foul (i.e. sabotage or just plain being a workaholic maniac). Does this involve knowing every single accounting footnote or finance footnote out there or having done a ton of WallStreetPrerp work or what?
PJC not sure what every kid is ranked on, so would like to be enlightened. Also how can I turn obsessive compulsivity into a force than can be reckoned with?!!!
i think you get extra browny points for licking the balls and stroking the shaft concurrently.
^ hmm.. could you elaborate on this personal experience of yours? I'd like to know more details like how it worked out for you. also, I'm guessing this is a talent you had already built up during school right?

Didn't realize Wachovia ranked their analysts...
^ Oh I'm sure all banks do, now you know!
Why even bother..
Nah i heard this kid was at fidelity (even worse)
Attitude and Managing Expectations...
this is one of the most uninformed questions on this forum

let me guess, top 500 non-target? i think you missed the point of a question, how is it lacking in information. i am seeking information.
Smile like you mean it.

A serious response would be nice (and refreshing).
A couple good ones mentioned: positive attitude (always smiling) and managing your team's expectations.
Not a funny troll.

Hi all.
I will start my career as a analyst in HK in the coming July. I have spent two summers in two different bb offices in HK, and find it hard to differenciate the performance of summer analysts.. because we were all doing similar simple work and just suffering long hours...
Have you got any tips on how to become a top analyst in the class? any opinions are appreciated.
s*** MD d***, eat VP pu***, or vice versa as the case may be.
No offence man, just tired and in need of a laugh. This is my way of getting it. Am sure the others on this board will have a bunch of helpful tips for you.
To Hayabusa, I hope you were not in NYC and stayed up the whole night..If that's true,I can totally understand..
Anyway, flattering senior people seems to be the common strategy for summer analyst to guarentee a FT offer here..
Btw, I am seriouly considering going into PE industry in HK in 1-2 years. But as you know, very few top PE shops have sizeable office in hk and they claim that they will only consider top 10% anaylsts from tier-1 banks. That's why I am curious about how to get to the top
When they have those communal sessions with you and your fellow analysts, you're the one asking the "how would you define success," or "what can we do to be a top analyst?" - like you just asked...
I mean, what do you think it takes? It's not rocket science man. Show up early, leave late; always have a great attitude and demeanor even when you're about to vomit because of sleep deprivation or alcohol poisoning; do great work and make sure you network well with MD's and VP's. Most importantly, find a mentor to tell you all the things I just told you in more depth...
being a nice person goes surprisingly far.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to be the best.
that's quite a lofty goal. what did you have in mind? what desk will you be on?
Don't just do what is asked of you, figure out what you will be asked to do it before you are asked.
Also, know exactly how long it will take you to get to the closest starbucks and walk back with 7 coffees.
yeah. practice balancing. the one guy here can carry 6 coffees, 3 in each hand, stacked on top of each other. that's good stuff.
LOL. I'll be on an energy desk. I just want to be the best that I can possibly be.
Always get them special food! Seriously though, bankers like to make fun of the food ordering thing, but at least my MD knows my name and knows I can be counted on to get the sushi here by 7:00.
this is a tremendously vague question. but...learn option theory, vba, and the energy market as best you can.
if you want to be the best trading analyst, you want to be known for 2 things..... 1) quickness 2) perfectionist
so you need to train hard before you start...
1) for quickness, practice sprinting in the treadmill .... you gotta be quick so the food is hot when you make that delivery to your MD.
2)To be a perfectionist, experiment different ways of making the perfect coffee... You will know its perfect...when your MD tells you that your like a chemist in the coffee lab...
You guys are useless lol.
no man, you are. i actually gave you advice a few posts up.
