How to best leverage my engineering background in an ER interview

Hey guys,

I am new here. I am trying not to ask stupid questions but if there is any, please don't kick me out ;)

I am going to have an interview with a tier-1 AM for a fundamental equity research graduate role. I have confidence for my life but I actually don't understand why they shortlisted me for an interview because:

  1. I am from a pretty good business school but not the level of Ivy league...
  2. I have never done equity research before...
  3. I have never worked in AM before...
  4. I am even not a CFA candidate...

My best guess is, maybe they are interested in my dual background: I have a bachelor in engineering and a master in finance. So could anyone give me some insights about:

  1. How can I best leverage my engineering background in the interview? Are they interested in my views on a new product of a tech company, for example, and my analysis about how it will drive the stock price of the company? Will it help if I mention that i can bring my network in the engineering and technology companies in the region that I would cover?

  2. Of course I will do my homework myself, but will appreciate if anyone could share me with some good articles about this topic or some must-read books/brochures. Gracias!

Btw, the internships that I have done: Credit Analyst in HSBC, Market Risk in SocGen, Market Analyst in a FinTech startup and Industry Research in Bloomberg.

Thank you very much!
