How to break into IB through part-time MBA program
Will start my part-time MBA soon. Had some corporate experience and financial/data analytic experience. Currently in a business strategy capacity. Strongly interested in breaking into IB. Anyone has success stories through a part-time MBA? Thanks very much in advance for your time and attention.
SummerExperience, sorry about the lack of response. Maybe one of these topics will help:
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
I would strongly recommend talking to second year students in your program who are participating in the recruiting process as part-time MBAs, as well as reaching out to recent alumni from the program who are currently working in banking. They'll be able to give you the most relevant advice on navigating the process in your specific program. You should also make sure to join the investment banking club at your school through the full-time MBA program, which will have a lot of resources and knowledge about the recruiting process. Even though you're in the part-time program, you should be able to take advantage of the resources available for full-time MBAs.
Fantastic, glad I could be helpful! Good luck with recruiting!
Buddy of mine was recently able to pull it off. Feel free to PM me with specific questions or if you want more detail.

IB Internship - PT MBA student (Originally Posted: 09/02/2010)
I am a PT MBA student looking to break into banking and wanted to get input on how to best go about securing a summer internship. There are many banks that recruit at my school, but since I am a PT student, I cannot use the recruting services. So my plan is as follows:
I am currently on the first step of the plan right now, but have not been getting as many repsonses as I would like to receive. My email is about 6 sentences (who I am, how I got their info, my background, what I want to talk about, suggested times/dates, and thank you). Most of the alumni have their school email address listed and this could be an issue. Its easy enough tto figure out their work email address, but some banks use a middle initial so not sure if its worth it to try right now.
Any suggestions that would help me with the networking process (or plan outlined above) and eventually land a summer internship would be appreciated.

You may not be able to use the recruiting services, but why can't you get the recruiters' email addresses? No need to indicate right off the bat you're PT. I attend a nontarget undergrad and I've gotten email addresses through various methods which have yielded fruitful results. Think outside the box.
I will def. go that route!! Thanks for the idea.
In your experience what did you request of the recruiter? I have read that you can either ask them to put you in touch with bankers at their firm so you can get an informational interview or just find out more about the bank and their particular recruiting process. What are your suggestions??
