How to build up my resume? incoming freshman
I am an international student who will start my finance major at a non-target in Montreal, Canada in a couple of months. Obviously, I would love to land an internship in IB/PE or something like that in my first summer but that's not going to be possible, so I am fine with anything that is finance-related. For my sophomore and junior summer, however, I really need to land a valuable internship. So far, I have decided on learning some programming, excel basics, and VBA. I have about 6 months of work experience (will continue for another month or two, totalling about 8 months) because I am interning at my family business where I work on accounting. I would also love to do finance-related projects by myself.I would like to know (1) what other skills to work on that I could add to my resume, (2) what kind of projects I can do and (3) whether I could create financial models or something like that in my internship and add that to my resume as well. Thanks in advance! :)
Enjoy your summer, jeez. If you do nothing but finance stuff and have no outside hobbies/passions/interests, you'll be unapproachable as a banker. Get good grades, understand the basics of modelling (you can learn during freshman year on the side within a semester), and you'll have a good start. Clubs on campus and non-profits can also be valuable starter experiences.
But for now, just take a chill.
