How To Close On Lateral Interview
Hey everyone hope you are doing well. Was wondering if I could ask for some advice. I'm currently analyst with 1-3 years of experience at a top BB that internal mobility is a bit frowned upon. Because of this, I decided in February that I would be better suited trying to lateral into ib/pe/vc/etc. at another firm. Since then I've had 5 superdays but no offers. Is my middle office background holding me back?

No, you’re not selling your modeling skills or other technicals enough.
Care to elaborate?
Sure. So it’s one of a few reasons you are not closing the deal. One is related to your firm or group, or something that you have no control over, in which case don’t sweat it it has nothing to do with you.
The other reasons is either related to your technical skills, stuff they will expect you to ramp up quickly and learn, or your interpersonal skills, which you will be expected to have
Got it. So I’m at GS so I don’t think it’s the firm lol I don’t think anyone would scoff at it. The role is pretty similar in that we work pretty closely with Lev Fin/IBD on transactions/pre-IPO lending/etc. I can answer all of the technicals pretty well but I think I need a better answer for why I’m interested in leaving the firm.
Got it. So, I think you can say that you reached out to the coverage teams, but they are not looking for anyone right now hence why you are recruiting elsewhere.
