How to deal with a kiss-ass coworker?

Sup WSO,
Title sums it up pretty well. Just started FT and truly enjoy my job and the people. I was hired onto a team with one other kid who interviewed the same day as me, we both started the same day. One month in and I just can't take it anymore.
This kid is basically Dwight from The Office. I am talking to the point where, if i ask my manager a question, he needs to fire a question back just to seem interested to him. If i dare to ask him a question about anything (which i rarely do), he'll shout the answer to make sure my manager hears that he is smart and has answers, etc. you get the point. The kid even looks down at people who drink alcohol.
I am as far from a kiss as possible, I do my work (and well) and do what is asked of me but you will never catch me being a Dwight. How do i make sure this kid doesn't outshine me by simply kissing ass when I know I am better at this job.

There is a reason that Dwight was cast as the character that he was - everybody recognizes that his is obnoxious and nobody actually enjoys working with those people. That means your boss recognizes it as well...not everybody is a Michael Scott.
