How to face an interview with the same interviewer who rejected me last year?

Hello,

This is my situation, last year I got invited to the first round of interviews for an Investment Banking internship at a BB. That was my first ever interview in Investment Banking and I was a little bit nervous. I had 2 interviews, one with an analyst (which I think I nailed it) and another with an associate (who asked me tougher questions). I think I did it ok, but not enough to get invited to the super day

This year, I have applied again to the bank, and I have been invited to the first round again. In the email, they gave me the names of my interviewers, and I will face the same associate again.

Will this fact change anything in the process? Should I expect tougher questions this time?

Is this a positive or a negative thing?

How would you guys approach this?

Are you going for FT again or re-doing SA? I’m not sure that they’ll remember you exactly, but if by any chance they do they might check notes from last time.

If it’s FT, prep for questions u might have gotten wrong (technical) then and make sure u nail those (in their notes they might write down “good technicals but struggled with X” x being valuation accounting whatever

If ur re recruiting SA, nah just don’t stress

Two things to keep in mind, the Associate may or may not remember you and you may have been bounced from the previous process for reasons that had nothing to do with the Associate. Honestly, I would use it as an opportunity to get feedback from them and try to turn the interview into a collaborative conversation, maybe joke about how nervous you were last time. I have actually been in this position before (lateral move), made it to the final round met with 3 MDs, a VP and Associate (nailed their technicals according to the VP when I met them again) and didn't end up getting the job but ended up interviewing with the firm a year later, meeting with some of the same people and they gave me an offer that day. The best thing to do is do your best to read the situation and go from there, and obviously know those tougher questions from before.
